| Abstract: | The cliff at Kępa Redłowska (Redłowska isolated moraine plateau), and particularly its headland, has been the subject of detailed geological, geomorphological and geotechnical research for many years. These projects have been undertaken in order to determine the scope and rate of cliff changes resulting from erosion and surface mass wasting. The cliff at Cape Orłowski has been used as an educational and research testing ground by the Division of Marine Geology, Institute of Oceanography, University of Gdańsk (UG). In 1997, for the first time, the area was included in a geodetic survey that utilized benchmarks connected to the Polish reference network, class I POLREF. Monitoring studies have been conducted over the past decade at the Orłowski cliff by graduate students and doctors study with the objective of identifying the geomorphological characteristics of the area, and its changes due to slope development. An important assessment technique used during these studies has been the identification of nearshore seafloor forms by hydroacoustic methods, by which the condition and change tendencies of the shore in the cliff area have been examined. The scope of research has included determination of changes in the cliff edge position and identification of processes occurring in selected sections of the slope. The quantity of deposited material transported offshore was also estimated. |
