| Abstract: | The Polish phycological story began in the USA in 1962 during the SIL Congress when the International Phycological Society was founded. Professor Jadwiga Siemińska was one of this society’s founding members. The idea of gathering together all Polish phycologists working in various Polish scientific institutions was discussed during the Tatra scientific meeting of the Polish Hydrobiological Society held in Zakopane in May 1969. Professor Siemińska’s tireless efforts following this meeting resulted in the founding of the Phycological Section of the Polish Botanical Society and the approval of its statute at its fortieth jubilee symposium held in Warsaw in 1972. |
