Title: Changes in the trophic state and phytoplankton composition and abundance in Loch Lomond, Scotland, UK
Authors: Krokowski Jan
Abstract: A north-south trophic gradient was shown in Loch Lomond, Scotland, with the highest inloch nutrient concentrations in the southern basin compared to the north. Phytoplankton biomass and abundances were correspondingly higher in the southern than the northern basin, and were shown to be most strongly positively correlated to increasing surface water temperature (and potentially light intensity and duration) in both basins, rather than to nutrient concentrations. An increase in the trophic state of the loch is also highlighted through the increased abundance of diatom taxa indicative of nutrient enriched conditions.
